WHAT DO PEOPLE EXPERIENCE IN THE PSYCHOMANTEUM?
People who go sit in the psychomanteum room tell us this that is a peaceful, calm experience, though often they have strong feelings as a part of it. Often they are a little nervous when they begin sitting in the room, but after a few minutes they relax. They look into the mirror and let their eyes adjust to the darkness. There is a low bulb on a dimmer control which they can use to change the level of light.
For many of the participants sitting in the room is simply a time for thinking about the deceased person, recalling memories and experiences. The sitter may speak to the person mentally or aloud, saying something that he or she wants to communicate the person who has died. Nothing dramatic happens, but it is a time for reflection and new understandings.
For some people there are unusual sensory experiences. The person may see flashes or streaks of light in the mirror or in the room. Sometimes these turn into images. For others the room remains dark. Other senses such as sound and touch occasionally occur.
About half of the individuals who go through say they felt the presence of the person they were seeking to contact. For some it is simply a sense of presence. Others may hear the person speak with them mentally. There may be messages that come, or insights that occur as the person sits. Occasionally, though rarely, the participant may see the deceased person in the mirror or in the room. Some have reported feeling a touch that reminds them of the deceased, or a fragrance. They may feel some form of communication.
As you can understand, the experiences vary with the person, and we advise our participants to be open, and if possible, not anticipate a particular kind of experience. Even what seems to be a simple quiet time may result in changes in feelings.
